Exchange students are welcome to take Japanese language courses offered by Center for International Exchange. Courses are divided into 3 levels (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced).

Visa

Exchange students need to apply for a “student visa.”
When applying for the visa, students need a “certificate of eligibility (CoE)” issued by an immigration bureau in Japan. Documents necessary for obtaining this certificate are included in application documents so that we can apply for it on behalf of students. We send it to your university’s coordinator once it’s issued. It usually takes 1 month or more to be issued.
For further information, please go to: VISA(Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website)

You are required to register for the “National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken)” after arriving in Utsunomiya. Estimated insurance fee is approximately 2,000 yen per month.
- Personal Accident Insurance for students Pursuing Education and Research (PAS)
All the students of Utsunomiya University are required to purchase the insurance called “PAS.” PAS covers injuries in the event of unexpected accidents during lectures, research activities, school events and so forth. You will pay the insurance fee after you arrive in Utsunomiya (1,340 yen for a year).
- Other insurance
In addition to two insurances above, we strongly recommend to purchase travel/study abroad insurance which covers illness, injuries during free time, rescue expenses and compensatory expenses. You may purchase insurance for international students via Utsunomiya University after arrival.

Tutor System

All exchange students will have their own buddy called “tutor,” who helps with doing homework, teaches Japanese and provides advice on daily life.
