INVITATION TO THE VIRTUAL LAUNCH OF 'GHANA TO THE WORLD (GTW)'
UNIVERSITY OF GHANA SUMMER PROGRAMME
The International Programmes Office (IPO) kindly writes to introduce to you its new summer programme, dubbed Ghana to the World (GTW) Summer Programme. This programme is a three in one programme - Tour Ghana, Study and Obtain Credit and Volunteerism. Through this model, the academic programme is supported by a well-developed socio-cultural programme consisting of weekend experiential learning excursions to places of historical and touristic importance and an opportunity for global service learning.
Participants can study and learn about Ghana and Africa as well as experience fun activities on the green campus of University of Ghana. Using the medium of interactive lectures that seek to immerse students in discussions on Africa centred topics and structured cultural tours, GTW tells the story of Africa from the perspective of Ghana, promotes cross-cultural emersion, and builds international peer networks all over the world.
Specific activities will include but are not limited to the following:
・Interactive academic lectures and cultural visits
・Studying at UG's green campus with its Botanical Garden and canopy walk
・Residing on campus accommodation
・Expanding knowledge and understanding of Africa
・Experience African centred instruction from faculty with global exposure
・Immersing oneself in traditional dance, drama, and music
・Gain a stimulating and refreshing understanding of traditional art forms and culture, including kente weaving and printing tie & die cloth
・Get lost in fireside discussions of traditional folktales and its contemporary applicability
・Visit tourist attractions in the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and Ashanti regions (Jamestown, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Art Centre, Du Bois Centre, Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castel, Kakum Canopy Walk, Craft and Wood Village at Aburi, Adahoma Kente Village, Ntonso Adinkrah Symbol Centre and the King of Ashanti's Manhyia Palace and museum)
GTW will commence in two sessions as follows: June and July annually. The duration of the programme is intended to be between two to three weeks with lectures held in an intimate seminar style format to fully immerse students in the course. The maiden program will be in June 2022 At the end of the programme, certificates will be awarded to participants. All Covid-19 safety protocols are in place with a nationwide vaccination exercise ongoing since March 2021.
We are, therefore, inviting your institution to be part of the Virtual Launch GTW Summer Programme scheduled for Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 16hrs (4:00PM). This is intended primarily to explain details of the programme and take questions from potential participants.
